Vision Boarding - use this process to achieve your goals in 2023

Hello Boss, welcome back and a fabulous Happy New Year for you for 2023! I am super excited about today's conversation. We’re kicking the year off with a really tangible and actionable activity that actually works - vision boarding.

I want to share this tool with you because vision boarding has been an integral part of my life and it’s how I've been able to achieve some of the biggest things imaginable. I've had a board on the go for almost nine years now. And last year, I ticked off everything with the exception of one thing from my vision board (and I had some of the biggest things I've ever had on my board to date!).

If you're curious about vision boarding, or even if you already use vision boards on the regular, I'm sure you're going to love today's episode. I step you through an overview of how a vision board works as well as my process for building the ultimate board.

The first step is that you need to get really clear on what it is that you want and what you want your life to look like.

The second step is understanding how having a visual representation of the life and business that you want keeps your desires, goals and focus at the forefront of your mind. A vision board helps you stay on course. If you find yourself getting off course with your goals and you haven’t created a vision board, maybe this is your sign to do so this year. I discuss how this ties in with the concept of co-creation and my interpretation of the law of attraction.

Next, I run you through what I’ve had on my board before, and how I’ve achieved these goals, including a promotion, house, relationships, renovation and how I want to be in this world.

I also take you through how to create a board - both physical and digital, and the reasons why I prefer a digital board these days. I provide some cues that will help you determine what you might want to include on your board for the year.

Having a vision board is deeply powerful for being more intentional about the life that you want to live and the things that you want to have in your life. I really hope that 2023 brings you everything that you desire. Vision boarding is such an incredible way of bringing your big vision to life.

I've made no secret of my love of vision boards. I've had a board on the go for, I don't know, maybe eight, possibly nine years now. And I attribute it to the ability to achieve and realize so many of the big things in my life and I'll share more about that during today's episode. But here's the thing, last year's board, I ticked off everything with the exception of one thing from my vision board and I had some of the biggest things I've ever had on my board to date. If you're curious about vision, boarding, or even if you yourself use vision boards on the regular, I'm sure you're going to love today's episode. I'm stepping you through an overview of how a vision board works, as well as my process for building the ultimate board. Are you ready? 01:30

Well, hello, boss, welcome back to the Run Your Business like a Boss podcast and fabulous Happy New Year for you 2023. How exciting. I love love, love, love, love the beginning of a new year, it's like we have the whole year ahead of us and anything is possible, which is why I am super excited about today's conversation.

01:58

I wanted to kick off the year with you with something that's tangible and actionable and an activity that really works. And it's gonna get you so excited about the year ahead. I've wanted to do a vision board podcast episode for a while now. But it really felt like this was the perfect time to have this conversation because I don't talk a lot about my experience with the law of attraction or manifestation because it's not my vibe for business coaching. So I don't talk about this extensively. But I wanted to share this tool with you because I think that this has been such an integral part of my life and how I've been able to achieve some of the biggest things imaginable. So I have had a annual board for many, many years, a couple of years ago, I did have like it was such a huge board, it was like a two to five year board. And whilst I enjoyed having that for a couple of years, I've just felt like it was just too daunting and to overwhelming.

03:01

So in 2022, I pulled it back into an annual board or something that I really was looking to achieve the things on the board in that year. And I've still got that big board in the background that I think about that I refer back to that I've put dates on it, that is actually not this year. But next year, that's like how big that board was. But I wanted to have something that's just more achievable, and something that I could really connect to. So as I said, I achieved everything on the board bar one thing, and let me tell you, the things that were on 2020 twos board was huge. And if I'm honest when I made that board, and I want to be really clear about this, because when you're going through and you're building a vision board, it can feel a bit like, whew, this feels very bold to put this thing on here. And I felt like that with a few of the things that went on to that board.

03:53

So to share some context about a few of the things that you know, I achieved last year. So in the center of my board was our new car. We really wanted the model Y Tesla and it hadn't been released in Australia, we didn't know when it was going to be released. We had it on our mind that we wanted. So I had the color that we purchased and had that at the forefront of my mind. And in the end, we ordered that car within 10 or so minutes of it being released in Australia and we were one of the first in the country to get the car. But part of that was we just kept seeing it over and over again on my board. We also had our renovation. And at the start of last year when we were getting quotes and we're going through the process of you know, getting our renovation underway, it looked like that was unachievable for us because of the state of the construction industry with short supplies and supply chain issues and the cost of building and all of those things that felt like that wasn't going to happen. And it did. I also had an international holiday and next week we are off to the US and Canada. So that came true and live may tell you, when I put that on the board, I was like, Oh, this feels like a cheeky little girl, I'm going to put that over there. But it's here, and we are about to embark on that. Awesome, you know, big childhood family holiday that we've been wanting to do for many years, it's actually finally now happening.

05:17

So they're just a taste a few of the things that I put on there, they're more on the personal side of things, I also put things in the business, where all of those came true, except for one of the things. And so I just wanted to share with you that like, it might feel really bold when you're going through this process yourself. But you get better at it, and you get better at achieving it.

05:40

So how does the vision board work? Here's the thing, the vision board is essentially, there's a few components to it, right? The first component is the process of getting really clear on what it is that you want. If you're not clear on what you want your life to look like. And I'm talking, I'm not just talking about things, money, belongings, all of those things. Whilst I did talk about those things in the beginning, I have also put on vision boards in the past the type of relationship that I want with my children, health and well being and balance and all the things that I've had to work hard at making come to life because I'm generally such a like high octane, go, go, go, go go sort of personality, I've had to be really intentional about being slower, being more mindful mindfulness was on my board for many, many, many years, before I started to become much more mindful as well as gratitude.

06:35

So the concept is, is that you want to get really clear on the design of your life and what you're working towards and what you're building in your life, not just things that you want to call in. So that's the first thing. The second thing is, is that by having a visual representation of the life that you want, and the business that you want, and that's going to keep your desires, your goals, your focus at the forefront of your mind. So even if you haven't worked on a thing for a while, and you've been focused on other things on your board, or your business or whatever, then just by constantly seeing those reminders, they don't get lost in the woods, what can often happen is that when we're designing our goals at the start of the year, it's like, okay, we write it all down. And we feel really good about writing that down and thinking about what that would be like to have those things or to, you know, have that kind of life or whatever it might be. But then the year goes on, and you just get in the grind, and you just lose focus or track on what it is that you had wanted for your life. And so then you just kind of end up following your nose and, you know, getting things done and having success, of course, but maybe a little off course. So if you find yourself getting off course with your goals, and you haven't created a vision board before, then maybe this is your sign to do so this year. So really, it is just about a visual representation of what it is that you desire, keeping it at the forefront of your mind.

08:07

Taking action is another big step. I think that there's this misconception about manifestation and the law of attraction. That's almost got a bad rap in that like people design these vision boards, and then they go away, and then they just hope that it's going to come to life, right? That's not how I see this working. And having used these tools and really sat in this space for many, many years now, how I believe it works, or certainly how it works for me is that I take action, and I have plans and I do the things. But I'm also supported and guided along the way. Now Gabby Bernstein speaks about co creation with the universe. And what that means is that you take action and the universe meets you where you're at, or God or source or whoever it is that you believe in whatever it is that you believe in, meets you where you're at, and gives you guidance and support and messages along the way. So that you are rewarded through taking action and doing work. So ultimately, that's how it works. It's not just about wishing things to be true, because that's not the law of attraction at all. So before I share what my steps are, because it's a pretty simple process, I want to share with you things that I have had on my board. So on my first board, it was very much around a promotion that I was working towards. It was achieving something really big workwise and I pretty much created a board around that. I didn't know how that was going to happen. And opportunity wasn't open or available at the time, but I made a board because I knew that I was ready for that step. So had that board, got that promotion, everything fell into place.

09:49

After that I moved towards the annual boards and I also had a bigger board as I said, but things that have been on my boards is my house like before I bought my house Ask like I put my house on there. And there's so much about that original picture that reminds me so much about the house that I have. The renovation has been on the board for many, many years. And more specifically, really front of mind last year, I've had relationships. I've mentioned this earlier, what my relationships are like, with my children, I've had how I want to be in this world. So gratitude, as I mentioned. And as a type A type personality, I want to go Go, go, go go, I want to work, work, work, work, work. And I've had to put on my board year after year, to be mindful, to slow down to trust more, right, that's not my nature to do those things I've had to work and having that I've had to be intentional about being those things. Likewise, not burning out, having space, those are the sorts of words that I have on my board, because those are things that I have to be really intentional about. As I said, car this year, there's so many incredible things that I look back on and I'm like, wow, those are things that I had on my board. Those are things that I've been working towards. And I really have faith in how this vision board works for me.

11:21

So a couple of resources that I read. So the secret, it's probably not that hip and these days, but there was very little literature around when I first started my process. So the secret was a big one mind power into the 21st century was also a big one. And the universe has your back by Gabby Bernstein was probably one of the biggest books that I read. And I read that when that first came out, I even have the Audio Copy. And sometimes I still go back and listen to those. I love Gabby, I saw her in January of 2020. She's coming back to Australia, so excited to see her again. But yeah, there's definitely a lot of books out there and information. If you're keen to learn more about the law of attraction, if you you know, I just did a sort of entry level stage with it.

12:12

Now, let me step you through the process that I go through when it comes to creating a vision board. So step number one is to get really clear on what it is you want your life to be, and what you want in your life. As I've said, this is not just about money and things. This is also about who you are and the type of person that you want to be. As well as you know, what are the things that you want in your life, and it's okay to want things, it's okay to, you know, want to have a certain revenue, it's okay to want to have things in your life, right. And I speak about this in an episode last year, episode number 80. Add Power to your purpose, a why process you've never heard before. And I talk about the material why. And you know what that might be. So it's okay to want for things, double back over that episode and take a listen if you just want to connect to what this actually means for you. So get really clear on what it is that you're wanting to have in your life, who you want to be and what you want to achieve.

13:16

And then the second thing is to design your vision board. Now there's two ways that you can do this, you can either do this on a physical board, and I did that for many, many years. Last year was the first year that I switched over to a digital board. And it worked so beautifully for me then that I'm going to do it again this year. But if you want to create a, you know, a physical board, that's cool, too. I did that. As I said, for many years, I just go to office works. If you're not in Australia, that's just a big stationery store, got a big piece of card, searched the Internet for images that resonated with my goals, printed them out, cut them out and stuck them on my board, right. So it was a physical board. Last year, as I said, I switched over to a digital board. And I really love to this process. And if you want to grab my digital board, head down into the show notes, and grab the template, I've got a template there for you to just build it and drop it in nice little easy way to get started with it. But basically, the digital board was just a simple case of finding pictures on the internet to drop into this Canva template that I created, adding in some words, and then I saved that as my desktop and my screensaver on my Mac.

14:23

And then I also created like a little mini version that I could have on my phone. Now here's the thing, this is why I think this particular process is so powerful is because I was looking at it. Every time I sat at my desk, I was looking at it every single time I was looking at my phone. I would not go a day without looking at my vision board. I don't know 15 times a day. It was there. It was undeniable. Right? So I would look at it. I'd look at the pictures I'd feel what it would feel like all of the things right so having it in digital form, I believe really supercharge it My board last year just because of the volume that I was looking at now, in the past, I've had a physical board and I've had it on the wall, it's always been there. But I'd have to look up at it or across at it. When it's on my screen, I'm looking at my screen. When I'm on looking at, when I'm looking at my phone, I walk past it, and I see it, it was this constant, I was actually physically looking at it, and I'd look at the different pictures. And I'd think about what they all mean, and why I put that in my board, etc, etc. So, yeah, you can do it either way. There's no rules there. But basically, you just want to have a visual representation of the goals that you set for yourself and some little cues to think about is what would you like to achieve in your business this year? What financial aspirations do you have this year? Again, that's where that why episode is really helpful. What do you want for your family this year? What kind of relationship do you want with your spouse? Or others in your life this year? Do you have any health or wellness goals? Are you wanting to bring someone new into the family? There are a baby or puppy or a new family member? How do you wish to spend your time? How do you want to feel this year? What do you need more often in more faith? Do you need more trust? Is there something that you want a car holiday, whatever that might be? And what do you want for the world around you this year. So there's some simple prompts for you to think about when it comes to building out your vision board as such.

16:36

So it's a really, really simple process, right? It's simply about getting clear on your goals, finding visual representation of the goals and either putting it on a physical board or a digital board and then putting it somewhere where you can see it all the time. Throughout the year, I will use that as a tool for meditation. So I'll zone in on one picture. And I'll then bring that to life in my imagination or my third eye. Throughout a meditation, you could also do that on walk, or as you're going to sleep is another good one, I'll often do a little bit of journaling before bed. And then just as I'm drifting off, I'll be thinking about, you know, the things that are on my vision board, specifically one thing at a time, I don't tend to like scan the whole lot, I tend to typically zero in on one thing. And just keep that front of mind. As I said, having a vision board is deeply powerful for being more intentional about the life that you want to live and the things that you want to have in your life. And as I said, if you haven't had a chance to do this in the past, or even if you've done it maybe a little bit differently, maybe give this a spin for this year.

17:43

I really hope that 2023 brings you everything that you desire. And I think that this is such a great way to help you to bring that big vision to life.
