What is a sustainable business and why aim for it

Have you ever wondered to yourself, what is a sustainable business and should you aim for it?

Having a sustainable business is a hot topic right now, but yet still something that many business owners don't yet fully understand.

In this episode, I’m giving you an inside look at what a sustainable business looks and feels like. The composition of a sustainable business is different for each Business Owner. At the core though, it's where you want to be in 5 to 10 years time.

Do you still want to be working 15 hour days?

In the beginning, setting up sustainable business was probably a low priority - because let's face it, it isn't a pressing priority. Fast forward to the messy middle (growth stage of business) when you've reached your time capacity - this is when you're likely to shift your focus on how to optimise your time and examine the operational side of your business.

I share how my own experience from burnout fuels my desire to support other business owners to achieve sustainability in business. I needed someone like me back then to teach me how to make my business more sustainable, with many years of experience from then and now, I’m here to help you!

This is the episode for you, if you know your working too hard in your business, you haven't yet set up your business operationally with tech and team and you know without a shadow of a doubt you couldn't work in this same manner 5-10 years time.

Topics We Covered:

[1:10]: Is a sustainable business a marketing ploy or buzzword? Absolutely not.

[1:47]: My own experience from burnout has given me a passion to support other business owners to achieve sustainability in their businesses.

[2:28]: A sustainable business is a business that you can comfortably operate into the future. It is financially viable and operationally set up so you’re not required to work 15 hour days for the rest of time.

[3:11]: Setting up a business is similar to parenting.

[5:41]: If you haven’t spent the time setting up the operational side of your business, you can find yourself inundated and overwhelmed with everything that needs your attention.

[6:16]: A sustainable business requires having a business model that supports your unique goals as the boss of your business.

[7:30]: Where you want to be 5-10 years from now will inform your decisions on your business model today.

[7:55]: If you’re in the messy middle and have reached time capacity then you should absolutely strive for a sustainable business.

[8:50]: Nothing will change if you don’t spend the time investing in the systems and operations.

[10:04]: I had to sell my first business because it was requiring me to be in it all of the time.

[11:11]: Previous episodes to listen to.
