Using ALL functions on Instagram to reach and connect with your dream clients with Lizzie Goodfellow

Creating reels is the latest trend on Instagram and almost every business owner has jumped onto the bandwagon. But are reels worth your time?

In this episode, I’m chatting with Lizzie Goodfellow, the Founder and Director of Oakwood Digital.

Lizzie is a Digital Marketing expert working with regional Australian clients, where she helps them elevate and grow their business with tailored and expert advice, as well as done for you social media services. With a strong focus on strategy, Lizzie has a different perspective on how to use Instagram for your business.

Despite being an introvert, Lizzie shows up authentically on social media and she begins by sharing her tips for how you can too (if you're an introvert, or even if you're not).

She then dives into the many functions of Instagram you can use to A/ attract your ideal client B/ connect with your ideal client C/ build trust with your ideal client. And spoiler alert, it's so much more than just creating reels! We also run through the different types of content you should be sharing in each format on Instagram to ensure you’re using your time effectively.

We finish up by talking about the lessons Lizzie has learned through her experience of running her business and how hiring a Business Coach has helped her create tremendous growth in only 10 months.

This was such a refreshing conversation with so many practical takeaways. You’re going to love it.

Topics We Covered:

[1:45]: Lizzie is the founder and director of Oakwood Digital. She provides premium digital and marketing support to regional businesses all over the country.

[2:16]: Lizzie is very introverted. There is an idea that entrepreneurs need to be very extroverted. Because Lizzie isn’t out there shouting the loudest, she has to be very good at what she does.

[3:28]: Lizzie’s introverted clients find it very comfortable with Lizzie as they can relate to her.

[4:35]: Lizzie’s tells us her tips for introverted people running a business. Show up on social media authentically. Show up in a way that you feel comfortable. Use Instagram stories as they disappear. Put your face on your feed. Understand that many other people are feeling the same way. Start small and build your confidence.

[8:08]: People love to connect with humans. If a brand isn’t showing the human on the other side of it, people will find it hard to connect with the brand.

[8:58]: Having 10,000 followers and having thousands of views on reels is great, but are you reaching your goals and actually talking to your target audience and making money. There may be a vanity component from big numbers, but big numbers don’t always mean more money.

[10:18]: Instagram reels can feel intimidating but they are very useful for more people to see what you’re doing. However, they might not grow your business if the content isn’t in alignment with your brand or it’s not your target audience.

[11:55]: As a service provider there is a limited amount of people you can work with, if that content doesn’t align with the work you do, you may have a large number of people looking at it but it won’t lead to sales.

[12:33]: Reels take a long time and a lot of planning. Is the payoff going to be worth it? Definitely worth experimenting with it to find out if it’s something for you in your business.

[15:24]: It’s good to have a balance. You can use reels to increase your reach and have a bit of fun. But use them as a tool and utilize other functions on Instagram as well.

[16:11]: Instagram has a number of functions. IGTV - long-form video content. Guides - collate different posts. The three main core elements are the feed, stories, and reels.

[16:55]: When you’re creating content for reels, think about how can I attract someone to follow me. They’re about entertaining and educating.

[16:31]: Your feed is the core element of your profile and where you can show your worth. You can save posts, comment, engage with people. When you create content for your feed, you should provide educational content, tell a story, or showcase expertise.

[18:25]: Stories are very valuable when it comes to connection. Use your stories to build trust and show your personality.

[21:25]: Social media is a useful business tool. It can feed your goals and what you want to achieve. Put your effort in the place that’ll give you the most benefit.

[22:40]: As you post more and more it becomes intuitive and a habit.

[24:03]: Lizzie has learned so much in her time running a business. She has learned how important boundaries are to her as a business owner and her clients.

[25:19]: Learning when to flex and when to hold strong. Starting with small boundaries and then getting stronger.

[25:51]: She has learned it’s okay to say ‘no’. The only way you can sustain your business is when you say ‘no’ in the right places. You can’t keep saying ‘yes’ to everything forever.

[28:40]: Lizzie doesn’t think that hiring just any coach is beneficial. You must choose someone who is aligned with you and you can trust. I have been working as Lizzie’s coach for the past 10 months and she is amazed by how much has changed in this time frame.

[29:49]: Having me as her business coach took her to a whole new level. She knew that she had to do the work to see the benefit. Lizzie took our work together seriously and she took deliberate action.

[30:55]: Justifying and having accountability to me as her business coach enabled Lizzie to create such incredible growth in a short amount of time.

[31:36]: Your coach will support you to figure out how to do everything. You won’t get incredible results if you don’t put the work in.

[32:56]: Where to find Lizzie.
