How to avoid Bright Shiny Object Syndrome
I’m so excited to be with you today for the very first episode of Run your Business like a Boss.
As a business owner, it can be overwhelming to navigate through the onslaught of advice from social media, family, friends and business peers. Often, that advice is pulling you further away from what’s actually important to you and your business.
In this episode, I share my 3 part framework to help you create a clear reference point to filter through all the noise. I break down some simple steps to help you grow your business from the inside out without getting distracted. I talk about anchoring into the bedrock of your business, setting long range goals, breaking them down and creating an action plan.
If you’re not sure what to do with all the advice out there, applying this framework will help you create a roadmap for moving your business forward in a discerning and intentional way.
[1:20]: We’re talking about how to avoid getting caught in the trap of blindly following advice without considering how it actually applies to you and your business
[2:30]: Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should
[3:30]: Step 1: Anchor into the bedrock of your business. This is your vision, mission and values.
[5:10]: Step 2: Set yourself a big annual or 6 month goal. Having long range goals in your business creates clear milestones toward achieving your vision.
[5:40]: Step 3: Break down the big goal into a smaller quarterly goal. Action plan for how you’re going to achieve this.
[6:20]: Recap of the 3 step framework
[6:50]: The framework creates a filter to be able to discern if advice aligns with your business. It helps you be strategic and deliberate with what you’re doing.
